Following its successful debut last year, the National Changgeuk Company of Korea's 'Changgeuk Playwright Project' returns for its second showcase in 2026. Designed to develop the strong scr ipts that serve as the foundation of changgeuk creation, the project nurtures next-generation writers - helping them translate fresh stories and unique perspectives into the language of the stage.
Selected through an open call, the playwrights refine their works through mentorship and creative workshops, then present distinct one-act changgeuk pieces at the showcase. Here, the traditional pansori-rooted language of changgeuk merges with youthful imagination to forge unexpected subjects and entirely new characters. Audiences will be the very first to witness the changing face of contemporary changgeuk - experiencing a vibrant, raw energy that points directly toward the next generation of theater
