Marking the 150th anniversary of Kim Koo's birth in 2026, the Seoul Performing Arts Company presents a reimagined production of the original musical 〈Baekbeom〉, which first premiered in 2020 at the National Museum Foundation of Korea. Rather than focusing solely on Kim Koo as a legendary hero of the independence movement, the production illuminates the deeply human life and convictions of a man who envisioned a world free of discrimination, a truly independent nation, and an era of unity that would transcend the conflict of ideologies and beliefs. It also revisits, through a contemporary lens, his profound dream of a peaceful nation leading the world through the power of culture. In today's world of continuing turmoil and conflict, "My Wish" — the iconic essay penned by Kim Koo over a century ago — remains a wish shared by us all. 〈Baekbeom〉 sings that any one of us, ordinary people living through our own era, can become another Baekbeom — and in doing so, it delivers a profound resonance.
