“Our Monsoon-Like Lives are Unraveled Through Gugak and Blues” 

A distinctive stage unfolds as Kim Su-In, a soriggun from the National Changgeuk Company, joins forces with the blues band Richiman & Groove Nice. Though seemingly different, Korean traditional music and the blues share a common thread in their use of the pentatonic scale, offering a unique musical experience that dissolves the boundaries between the two genres. This unfamiliar yet natural encounter can be experienced only at Yeowoorak. The motif of this performance is the monsoon season. What begins as a misty summer day deepens from a light drizzle into sudden showers and eventually torrential rain, forming a vast and immersive flow. Yet when we stop merely enduring the rain and instead surrender to it—finding joy within—it transforms from a gloomy stretch of time into a “rain-soaked elation.” Just as the rain eventually clears and sunlight filters through, and just as a bright dawn follows the moment we begin to embrace it, our lives, too, gradually clear within this flow. Each phase of this journey is accompanied by music expressed through the tonal languages of gugak and blues, inviting the audience to fully immerse themselves in a richly musical experience.
