80 Minutes of Whirling Energy - Tero Saarinen and the National Dance Company Return
Created by the first international choreographer the National Dance Company has ever invited, <Vortex> showed exotic yet profound movements derived from Korean dance. What could execute this remarkable piece was the unmatched capabilities of the Company. Ever since its creation, it has established itself as a widely popular repertory, presented as the opening performance of Cannes Dance Festival in 2015 and at a number of Korean and international venues including Kanagawa Arts Theater in Yokohama, Japan. A genius choreographer from Finland Tero Saarinen created this dynamic Korean dance, which is audio-visually complemented by Mikki Kunttu’s refined set and lighting design. Along with monochromatic costumes by Erika Turunen and live music by Be-Being led by composer Jang Young-gyu, this piece will give vigor and vibrancy to the waves that turn from calm ripples into a fierce vortex.
In addition, a new cast of 2022 will add another appealing layer of the returning <Vortex>.
“The stage ripples with the waves brewed from the dancers’ movements and breaths.” Dong-A Ilbo
“In this performance, we see a moving tradition looking towards modernity.” Brigitte Lefevre, artistic director of Cannes Dance Festival 2015
