A Heartwarming Message from the National Dance Company for Modern Man’s Anxiety
This new piece, which is artistic director Sohn In-young’s first choreography since she took office, offers an energy of positivity and comfort for people of today who are going through anxiety and pain due to environmental destruction and climate change. Through Five Phases of the East and Obang-cheoyong Dance ?of five dancers as the figure of Cheoyong, symbolizing the five elements(tree, fire, earth, metal, and water)? the performance guides the audience into a world where man and nature seek harmony and balance with wisdom, performed by the entire members of the Company. This journey of creating a new Korean dance is joined by artist Jeong Minseon who achieves a visually unified style and effect with her remarkable set, costume, and video designs, and composer Ra Ye-song who is known for her inventive music. After the postponement of its premiere due to the pandemic, <Five> has acquired greater maturity and depth.
