Bold and Provocative! The Return of the Most Experimental Series
This is the most experimental series of the National Orchestra of Korea which presents new interpretations and recreations of traditional music through the perspectives of contemporary composers. Since 2014, it has presented original compositions that, while keeping the depth and sensibilities embedded in traditional music, made shifts in genre, musical piece, or style of expression with contemporary aesthetics. Returning after 3 years, this edition is joined by conductor Choi Soo-yeoul, who contributed to the series' conception. The Orchestra will perform new works by Kim Texu, who is at the center of classical Korean Wave, and Kim Baek-chan, who is gaining wide recognition in Korean original music, as well as “The Lion Dance” by Belgian composer Baudouin de Jaer which was presented in 2014. Maestro Choi is known for his exquisite command of Korean musical vocabularies based on perceptive interpretation of contemporary music. A new harmony he will create with the National Orchestra of Korea keeps our expectations high.
