In 2020, National Theater of Korea celebrates its 70th anniversary. Since 1950, National Theater of Korea promotes the creation of contemporary performing arts based on traditional Korean performing arts to contribute to improving quality of people's life. As a national theater, National Theater of Korea has been a central to the creative life of the country and takes responsibility for fostering the health of the wider performing arts for 70 years.
Running the National Repertory Season from September to June, National Theater of Korea presents new productions and repertories created by national agship performing arts companies. National Theater of Korea strives to produce excellent and innovative productions and present international productions ranging traditional to cutting-edge productions throughout a year.
The resident company of National Theater of Korea, National Changgeuk Company of Korea, National Dance Company of Korea and National Orchestra of Korea present challenging productions in highest standards by collaborating with directors, choreographers and musicians who bring a new idea of expanding the possibilities of traditional Korean arts. About 160 outstanding artists in pansori, dance, and music devote themselves to artistic pursuits to create a performance with its unique style.
